About Us

It was coaching their kid’s baseball team where Bloomington restauranteur Abe Carney and his business partner John Moore first started discussing the need for a locally dedicated gluten-free restaurant.  Motivated to create a place for their many Bloomington friends and family dealing with gluten restricted diets, they reached out to John’s brother, Thomas Moore and his wife Elissa McKee, who founded 1823 Bakehouse, an award-winning gluten-free restaurant in Franklin, Indiana. The result of their collective hard work is Brightside Cafe, a Bloomington-based 100% gluten-free restaurant.

The Brightside Cafe ownership team consists of Bloomington locals; Abe Carney and John Moore, and investors/restaurateurs Elissa McKee and Thomas Moore.

Breakfast

All items are gluten-free and wonderfully delicious. Choose from flavorful quiche to tasty pastries, all made from scratch in our own kitchen.

Pair your breakfast with fresh-brewed coffee or a fruity specialty drink.

Lunch

Lunch items include a variety of sandwiches, soups, and fruit. Of course, we have dessert as well!

Where We’re Located

Brightside Cafe is located on the lower level of Fountain Square Bloomington, accessible through the east entrance off Walnut Street. From the main level, Brightside Cafe can be accessed from the glass elevator in the Main Atrium or by taking the stairwell in the South Atrium.
